I recall my bad experience in 2005. The computer tech told me I might as well just restore the whole system since we couldn't get it to even open the computer. I said "no" way and took it to a computer service center in town. It took a while but they found all my files and did it for $65. That's when I started backing up everything but do get behind. Your experience has me even backing up my externals on DVDs...better safe than sorry! Yea...on to better days for you!scrapladyandmorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13391732848794591754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8951425923654771967.post-55558030201676436842012-03-25T16:32:38.660+02:002012-03-25T16:32:38.660+02:00Thanks, Deb, but even if I´d known about the servi...Thanks, Deb, but even if I´d known about the service you mentioned, you were right when you had your doubts about the possibility of my getting online. It was totally out of the question. My browser was the first thing to give up the ghost followed rapidly by everything else until all I got was error messages on a blank screen. Frightening to say the least!

I use Avira which is updated daily and is highly thought of in Germany as being reliable. I also use Malwarebytes to regularly check for anything malicious which might be overlooked by Avira. Both of these already have several computer nasties in quarantine. Maybe no anti-virus software can react quickly enough to protect against such a devastating attack.

My next step will be to buy an external hard drive as back up. This time I - eventually - got off lightly but there´s no knowing when something like that will happen again and I may not be so lucky next time around.retrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10474071051744215822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8951425923654771967.post-70962813799216903742012-03-25T16:09:38.942+02:002012-03-25T16:09:38.942+02:00With my most recent battle with a virus, I used th...With my most recent battle with a virus, I used the services of AVG... www.avg.com then look at TechBuddy... they remotely connected to my computer, and I never had to unplug a thing and take it anywhere, they did a fabulous job. I guess it would depend on what kind of virus you have, and if you can still get on-line and reboot and all that jazz. Anyway, it's something to keep in mind if God forbid you ever have another problem.

I'm so happy for you that you found all your old files and programs. I am sorry you had to go through all that. What kind of anti-virus software are you using? I've been having excellent luck with the free version of AVG.

As far as your kit goes, I love both of the oval frames, and I don't think two in a kit is too many. I would include both of them. :)Deb Ammermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00251607119791926401noreply@blogger.com
