just an old-fashioned girl

Hello and welcome. I'm glad you dropped by. If you´re looking for something a little nostalgic of bygone eras with a timeless elegance and a little modern twist – in other words, something slightly “retro” – then you should feel right at home here in my shabby chic room. Month by month, there will always be something new to see so I hope you´ll enjoy your stay and come back again soon.

Reminders Of Happier Times

Contrary to appearances – or non-appearances – I´m still here though not necessarily chained to my computer these days. When our national poet, Robert Burns, said that “toothache´s the hell of all diseases” he´d obviously never suffered from sciatica. But enough of that.

I´ve received lots of lovely cards today and just had to show you a couple which mean a lot to me as they feature two of my very favourite creatures. This one from my husband reminds me of summer when this butterfly, along with its sisters and its cousins and its aunts, fluttered brilliantly among the buddleias on our patio.

This one also brings back many memories of summer, and to those of you who know me, requires no explanation at all.

Thank you, Herbert and Pauli, for cheering me up on a dreary January morning and reminding me that happier times are just around the corner.

  1. Happy Birthday, Helen!
I haven't made you a new card, so hope you will still enjoy one from last year at http://scrap-genie.blogspot.com/2012/01/birthday-card-for-helen.html
. So sorry the back is still ailing! Hope things get better SOON.

  2. Thank you, Jean. I still have your lovely card and it still gladdens my heart.

I´m waiting to see an orthopaedic specialist and hoping he´ll give me a transfer to the clinic. Fingers Xed....

  3. What an adorable card from your friend Pauli! Hope you have a wonderful birthday and are blessed with a pain-free day (or at least as pain-free as can be expected until you're able to get treatment.)

  4. Happy Belated Birthday Helen. I hope you get some relief soon for you back. I know how horrible it is to have chronic pain. Thinking about you and wishing you a beautiful day.

  5. OMG...I told my husband last week that you had a birthday coming up and I even looked up the one I posted here last year and made a mental note thinking if nothing else I would re-post. (Here's the link: http://www.retrodesigning.blogspot.com/2012/01/happy-birthday-helen.html) Then i found an e-card that was perfect for you and well...so much for my mental note of the date. Should have sent the card early and not have relied on my mental capabilities...LOL! Oh...just remembered. I was on the couch all day Sunday from an exposure...used a hair product for my thinning hair and though no fragrance, there must have been a "chemical" that got me. Spent Monday recovering and much better today.

Love Pauli's card...reminds me of your Christmas e-card I sent with the beach scene. And how cute is Dora peeking out of the garden.

Keep an eye out for an e-card or two. Loved the one with flowers but also like the one with butterflies! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY MY FRIEND!
