just an old-fashioned girl

Hello and welcome. I'm glad you dropped by. If you´re looking for something a little nostalgic of bygone eras with a timeless elegance and a little modern twist – in other words, something slightly “retro” – then you should feel right at home here in my shabby chic room. Month by month, there will always be something new to see so I hope you´ll enjoy your stay and come back again soon.

Heart Of Gold

I have the small diary which my mother bought shortly before she passed away. The only entries in it are the 24th of December, my sister Carole´s birthday, and the 13th of January, my own. As these are two dates which no mother could possibly forget or need to be reminded of, I think this says a lot about her and what was important to her. Since she was, and always will be, important to me too I feel it fitting that on my birthday I should pay tribute to her with this page in her memory. It´s also appropriate and no coincidence that I should have used one of my favourite kits, Heart Of Gold.

  1. What a beautiful page and a moving tribute to your mother. She was very blessed to have you as her daughter. Hope you're having a terrific birthday!

  2. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know when I lost my Mom almost 13 years ago, I spent time doing pages of her for Matthew's scrapbooks and felt close to her while I worked on them. It gave me comfort, and I hope it did the same for you as you worked on this beautiful tribute page of your Mom. I am sure she is smiling down on you from heaven. I hope you are having a lovely birthday.

  3. I too am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to lose one's mother. I'm also sorry to have missed your birthday. Here's hoping this will be a better year than the last.

  4. I am sorry for your loss...lovely tribute using one of my favorites kits of yours. What a blessing to have the memory of your mother's diary entries to recall each year as you celebrate your birthday. I am sorry for missing your birthday...it's normally so easy to remember as my father's birthday is January 18th and serves as a reminder that my dear friend's birthday is a few days earlier. This year my focus was on another January birthday...my grandson Jase Logan was born January 10th and I was in Dallas taking care of Brody while mom was in the hospital for total bed rest and observation until Jase was born. I now have a family birthday a few days before yours...love that you are tucked right there between Jase and my Dad's birthdays! Hope you had wonderful and blessed day.
